Libby Edelman has influenced the fashion industry for over three decades. Early in her career she worked as a fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar and Seventeen, exposing herself to two completely different kinds of consumers. After a successful period in the magazine industry she went on to work on the client side as Public Relations director for Calvin Klein. It was during this time that she attended an industry event and met budding shoe designer Sam Edelman, who would later become her business partner and husband. In 1983 Libby and Sam moved west to join Esprit de Corp., a San Francisco sportswear company. For five years she worked with Sam on developing Esprit's shoe line in addition to designing and managing the Esprit kids shoe business. In 1987 the duo left Esprit to bring their own vision to life, founding a footwear business that would eventually become a household name and one of the most successful companies in shoe history. Going from 3 to 88 Million in sales in only 4 years, the Edelman's single handedly placed the ballet shoe on the map and revolutionized the advertising industry with their innovative campaigns that had little to with footwear, and everything to do with life.
In 2000, after a four-year hiatus from the industry, her husband's namesake brand, Sam Edelman, was born. Back to juggling her roles as career woman, tireless mom, devoted wife and style icon, Libby started to think about all the women just like her who needed a shoe that fit their exciting, yet frenetic lives. They had to be comfortable and versatile, yet they also had to be fashionable. Libby used her fashion experience to translate "runway to reality," for women whose desire for fashion blends seamlessly with their normal everyday lives - because Libby understands that it's possible to make a style statement and be a mom at the same time.
